Analogies

Tired of having students "learn" vocabulary from the glossary? Try analogies! When students walk into the room have them choose one random word, then YOU write it on the board (that will save some headaches later). Now pass out the analogies sheet (adjust the number of lines on the page to fit the number of analogies). The students can use the random words that are on the board to compare to this unit's vocabulary. Another strategy I use with analogies is to have the students compare this units vocabulary to LAST units vocabulary, what a way to connect prior knowledge!
